The main function of a thread tap is to process internal threads.

Threaded taps are commonly used for drilling blind holes in CNC machining centers. They have the characteristics of fast processing speed, high precision, good chip removal, and good alignment, making them suitable for machining through holes and blind holes. Different helix angles can handle different materials, ensuring good cutting effects and thread quality.

Specifically, thread taps can be classified into different types based on their design and purpose, such as straight groove taps, spiral groove taps, and pointed taps. Straight groove taps are commonly used for machining through holes and blind holes, but iron chips exist in the tap groove, which may result in low thread quality and are more commonly used for machining short chip materials. Spiral groove taps are suitable for blind hole machining with a hole depth of less than or equal to 3D. Iron filings can be discharged along the spiral groove to obtain high-quality thread surfaces. Screw tip taps (also known as edge angle taps or tip taps) are usually only used for through-hole machining, with iron chips discharged downward, low cutting torque, and surface quality of the machined threads.
