Material
- High speed steel (HSS) : such as W18Cr4V, W6Mo5Cr4V2, etc. High speed steel has high hardness, high wear resistance and good toughness, and its hardness can generally reach 63-66HRC.
Tungsten carbide: The main components are tungsten carbide (WC), titanium carbide (TiC) and so on. The hardness of cemented carbide is very high, up to 89-93HRA, and the wear resistance and thermal hardness are excellent.
However, despite these advantages, high speed steel and tungsten carbide also have their limitations. For instance, high speed steel is less suitable for high-speed machining due to its lower thermal hardness compared to tungsten carbide. On the other hand, tungsten carbide is more brittle and can be challenging to work with in complex shapes or thin sections.
